Family Class: Carve a Butter Knife Instructor: Fred Livesay Keep tradition alive for another generation in this class for an adult and a child. A butter knife is a great first project for a young carver. And if the adult is a beginning carver, too, so much the better. The point is to have fun, spend time with a child, and to create something that is functional. All carvers will learn the basics of blocking out a knife, the different strokes used for creating a smooth object, and sanding for a finished look.
$70 for one adult and one child (recommended ages: seven and above).
$45 for a single adult. Sorry, absolutely no children by themselves in this class.
Saturday, September 25, 10 to 5
Chip Carving - Carve a Christmas Ornament Instructor: Walter Grittner Chip carving is an ancient art form that produces beautiful geometric patterns on surfaces. Used most often to decorate wood, chip carving can also been seen on stonework in 8th-century churches. Walter Grittner has been carving for over 60 years and he enjoys sharing his knowledge and skills with others. You will receive a prepared wooden blank and Walter will walk you through, step by step, as you create an intricate carved pattern. You will leave at the end of the class with a completed ornament. You can buy additional blanks for $5 each. Please bring a #2 handle X-acto knife, a ruler, a compass, and a pencil with a fine point. $40 To learn more about Walter and to see some samples of his work, Click Here...
