Knitting the Nor-way; A Workshop with Arnhild Hillesland

Instructor: Arnhild Hillesland

Norwegian knitter, designer, and translator Arnhild Hillesland will teach the skills necessary to make a true Norwegian-style mitten. During the six-hour class, you will make one small child's mitten. Arnhild describes the class in the following way," We will make traditional Norwegian mittens the way grandma did it, using 5 double-point needles. The mittens have one pattern on the back of the hand, and another in the palm. The gusset makes a comfortable fit, and is worked with a third design. We will also discuss 3 different ways of making the thumb opening."

You must be comfortable working with two colors and double-point needles. You must knit the cuff before class. You will receive cuff directions if you register at the store or we can email them to you if you call or email to register. $60

Saturday, September 11   10 to 4:30  (One half hour for lunch)

Knit a Norwegian Star Hat

Instructor: Diane Thomson
This is a wonderful introduction to multicolor knitting and reading a chart. The hat begins with a band of Latvian braid, followed by the body knit with the Norwegian star motif and ends with a braided tassle. Knitters should be comfortable with circular knitting (knitting in the round).
For those of you who took last spring's Latvian mitten class, here is an opportunity to make a hat that is worthy of your mittens! $40
Thursdays, September 9, 16 & 30    6 to 8

Beginning Knitting
Instructor: Joan Gilbertson

This is a one-time class that will teach you the skills necessary to knit basic projects on your own. You will learn to cast on, cast off, knit, purl, and read a basic pattern. You will make a small swatch in class so you can make a larger, wearable item at home. (If you are a social knitter, you are invited to join our free Friday knitting group.) Soup and bread will be provided at the beginning of the evening class. Receive a 10% discount on all knitting supplies purchased at the time of class. $20

Tuesday, September 21 7 to 9 or

Knit Latvian Mittens

Instructor: Diane Thomson
Beautiful, intricate, and very, very warm, Latvian mittens are an opportunity for a knitter to grown in her or his skill in patterning and colorwork. This popular class has developed the tradition of starting with a potluck before tackling the challenges of Latvian design. Feel free to contribute a dish or not - there's always plenty - and join a community of knitters committed to creating practical pieces of artwork. Yarn handspun and dyed in
Latvia
will be available for sale at the time of the class. $40
Thursdays, October 14, 21, 28, and November 4
6 to 8

No-Tears Knitting Drop-In
Instructor: Amanda Aanerud
Elizabeth Zimmerman's classic book Knitting Without Tears inspired us to offer this free, drop-in workshop. There is no reason knitting shouldn't be fun, but we realize there are days that you just want to throw your needles and yarn across the room. So, rather than do that, come to Ingebretsen's and ask for Amanda. She will happily help you get your project back on track and make knitting an enjoyable process once again. Free.
Saturdays
9:30 to 11:30
