Beginning Hardanger
Instructor: Laurie Olson Williams
Hardanger lace is a combination of embroidery, cutting, and drawing threads in a geometric pattern. The definition doesn't do justice to this striking needlework form. Learn how to read a pattern, start a project, basic stitches, and finishing techniques. Laurie will guide you through each step so you can stitch with confidence. One of the many beauties of Hardanger is that even a very basic project looks wonderful, so plunge in! $40
Saturdays, September 25, October 2, 9, 16
9:30 to 11:30

Red Work Embroidery
Instructor: Laurie Olson Williams
Red work is the bright, cheery, linear embroidery style that became popular in
Europe
and the
United States
in the 1800s and reached its peak in the 1930s, when people really
needed something cheery. Learn the basic stitches for making these light-hearted retro
designs. Class fee includes a pattern (you will have several from which to choose) and a
12"x12" square of muslin. If you prefer, buy some flour sack towels and we'll put your
pattern on those. The class allows enough time to learn the stitches you need, work a
significant part of your pattern, and to learn how to finish a piece. This class is
appropriate for young people 10 and above, so grab a child (or a childish friend) and
join us. $20 plus materials.
(Bring embroidery needles, scissors, and hoop if you have them.)
Saturday, October 2, 1 to 4

Christmas Red Work Class
Instructor: Laurie Olson Williams
Red work embroidery and Christmas were destined to go together! Learn outlining and decorative stitches that bring Christmas motifs to life. You will receive a small muslin bag with a pattern printed on it. We will work the pattern in class and when you leave, you will have made a reusable gift bag!
We will have samples and ideas for further bag decoration. You can purchase embroidery floss, needles, and any additional decorative materials for 10% off at the time of the class. $20

Saturday, November 6,   1:30 to 4:30
