or…Drown by the Old Mill Stream
by Gerald Anderson.
The body of Eirik the Viking, known far and wide for the quality of his axes that could split a Saxon skull, was found downstream from the old mill. It appeared that he had been slain by his own weapon. Such a foul deed may not have been rare in Eleventh Century Europe, but this was Otter Tail County, Minnesota. Sheriff Palmer Knutson determined that it was a case of murder, and the rest of the members of the Viking camp were all suspects. The more he investigated, the more apparent it became that the happy band of creative anachronists who had set up their camp by Phelps Mill all had their own reasons for sending Eirik to Valhalla.
