A beautifully depicted story of Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002), now known for her creative and whimsical stories such as Pippi Longstocking.
Astrid grows up in rural Sweden with strict and loving parents. Eager to break free she takes a job with a local newspaper where she attracts the attention of the married editor, and becomes pregnant. Going to Denmark to give birth to her son, she heartrendingly leaves him with a foster mother, who later becomes ill. Astrid then takes custody of her son and uses her storytelling to make a life for herself and her son. In spite of her struggles, Astrid emerges with a newfound courage that will later form the foundation of a vast and beloved body of work.
