Raised in a home plagued by tuberculosis, poverty, and mental illness, Norwegian Edvard Munch (1863-1944) developed a style reflective of each. He sought, through his art, to “explain life and its meaning to myself.” He abandoned Impressionism and sought a style in which he could more readily release emotion and energy. Thus, his most famous work, The Scream.
The painting’s 1895 version is on a Terry Cloth Towel, 12×20”
