Tales of Thor continue into modern Scandinavia, such as the Norwegian Thorsvarme (Thor’s warmth) for lightning, and the Swedish godgubben åfar (The good old fellow is taking a ride) when it thunders. Thor's power is palpable in this vibrant and impressive woodcarving from Henning in Norway. 8"
Henning Engelsen carved his first wooden figures in 1947 and the following year, founded Henning. After a workshop was built in the idyllic village of Kapp, and employees hired, the business grew steadily and became one of the leading Norwegian souvenir makers. Henning contributed to the tradition of Norwegian carving and continues to take inspiration from nature and folklore. Engelsen remained the creative source for Henning throughout his life and passed the business on to his three daughters.
