Runes meaning Cow and Torch describe the culture living in the Northlands. At the onset of the “viking era” around 700 AD, the runes and words to describe them changed. Instead of Cow the meaning became Money. Instead of Torch the meaning became Cancer. Pandemics, globalism, climate change, and political/religious pressures stressed cultures in the Northlands and the language reflects that. Her book “The Runes: A Pandemic Journey” (2024) talks about the 16 Younger Futhark runes coming out of the chaos of the late Iron Age and what makes them relevant to the times we are living in now.
