Okay, this book does not have its base in Scandinavian roots, but it's so fascinating, we had to share it. You can start with a simple square knit on the diagonal. You can make garments an accessories from sqaures and rectangles. Then progress to manipulating flat surfaces to create something magical. Make items with multiple squares, rectangles or folded shapes. Add folds, tucks and rectangular inserts to enhance traditional shapes. Use the patterns as given, or follow suggestions on creating your own. It could be so much fun!
