West of the Moon

In mid-nineteenth century Norway a young girl Astri escapes from her aunt, daringly retrieves her little sister, and sets off to find their father, who has gone to seek his fortune in America. Armed with a troll treasure, a book of spells and curses, and a possibly magic hairbrush, they are joined by a mysterious companion who can spin straw into gold. With a malevolent "goatman" in pursuit, the threesome head over the Norwegian mountains, through field and forest, and in and out of folktales and dreams as they steadily make their way east of the sun and west of the moon.
