In Sweden, Easter witches or påskkärringar have been a tradition since the early 19th century. On Skärtorsdagen (the cleansing Thursday) before Easter, children will dress as witches (påskkärringar) and go door to door wishing a Happy Easter and receive treats (much like trick-or-treating). This tradition ties to the folktale of witches flying on broomsticks to the legendary island of Blåkulla to dance with the devil on this day.
